Seroepidemiological Study on Japanese Encephalitis in the Republic of Korea 1974

Abstract
During the summer season in Korea, J.E. has been known the most improtant arthropod borne viral disease as acute infection, has high fatality and only symptomatic therapeutic disease.
The authors investigated J.E. outbreak concerning geographic, seasonal, age group and ratio between rural and urban by means of the seroepidemiological data and analysis of received questionaire which were sent from various hospital, clinic, health center and local hygienic laboratory through epidemic season.
Results were explained briefly as follow:
1. Total collected sera of clinical cases were 399 and morbidity rate due to 1970 census was 0.40 (per 100,000)
2. Case fatality rate was 22.90 per cent.
3. Human epidemics outbroke sporadically all over the country and could not find out northward advancinig phenomenon.
4. Total J.E. cases under 15 years old group shown less than 90 per cent.
5. First J.E> cases was confirmed late of August and epidemic season of this year was delayed 20 days than that of last year¢¥s.
6. Ratio of confirmed cases between urban and rural area was 37.3 : 62.7
